Day 80: Policastro to Porto di Maratea

This is the last canoe club for some distance, so I made the most of it and had a relaxed morning. Walking in to green grocer I picked up some courgette and tomatoes and the owner, a friend of Mariano’s, gave me a pile of grapes, peaches, oranges and bananas!

I got on the water at 4pm but after an hour in to a nasty headwind and only 5 kilometres I began to regret getting on the water. Happily it calmed down, and I was glad I persevered as it turned in to the most beautiful evening.

I arrived in Maratea where I met Claudio, another friend of Mariano’s. We went around the corner from the harbour in his motorboat where he showed me a good beach to sleep on, and then I was treated to a plate of prosciutto, mozzarella and tomatoes in the restaurant on the pier – thanks Claudio!

Diabetes

This is what I mean when I say my dexcom isn’t calibrated: the blood glucose monitor on the left is my actual blood glucose level (11.8), my dexcom (a continuous glucose monitor – sensor under my skin that sends blood glucose level to my phone every 5 minutes) says 17.8.

This is a huge difference. After a few days the dexcom calibrates itself, if you calibrate it manually in this time you can break it. Until then it makes messaging my levels tricky, because the difference isn’t linear.

So although it looks like I was high all day, my levels were actually pretty good.
